Sell product variations with variants

Variants let your customers choose different versions of a product before they make a purchase. They are used to create distinctions between for sizes, colours but can also be used to let your customers buy upgrades or additional services. For one-off payments, variants can add an additional amount to the product price.

Examples of how you can use product variants

  • Sell a product in different types, sizes, colours and styles
  • Let customers buy an upgrade or additional services, e.g. buy a coaching session when purchasing an ebook
  • Sell tiered combinations of products, e.g. 3 video lessons, 9 video lessons, full course, full course + ebook
  • Sell licenses in different tiers or usage limits
  • Charge different shipping rates

What does it look like?

How do you use variants?

Click on the page you want to add variants to. If you haven't created the page you want to add variants to yet, do this first by clicking the New page button in your dashboard.

Now click on the Variants tab.

Click the Add variant button to add your first Variant. This will create a variant with a single option – you can add more variant options by clicking the + symbol.

  • Variant name - The variant name is displayed as a label in the select list that's shown to your customer on your checkout. It is also used to communicate to you which option a customer has bought. Examples are Size, Color, Version, Amount

  • Required - The required checkbox allows you to force the customer to select a variant option for this variant. If you leave it empty, the customer will be able to checkout without selecting a variant

  • Options

    • Name - This is the label of the option the customer selects, for example Green, Small, Ebook, 1KG

    • Additional charge amount - This is the amount that will be added to the base (page) price when your customer selects this variant. You can leave it empty if the variant option doesn't influence the price. Additional charge amounts are not supported on Subscription pages.

    • SKU - A stock keeping unit (SKU) is a product and service identification code for a store or product, often displayed as a machine-readable bar code that helps track the item for inventory. The SKU of the by the customer chosen option will be shown to you in the sale confirmation email, on the sales page and in the charge meta data in your Stripe dashboard.

    • Manage stock - Check this box to track manage Stock for this option.

    • Stock - Available when 'Manage stock' is checked. Here you keep the stock of a variant option. With each purchase of this variant option, the value of Stock is decreased by 1. When there's no stock left, the option will be disabled in the checkout.

    • Reference - Use the Reference field to identify variants in integrations such as Zapier and Stripe Metadata.

After adding your variant and options, press Save. You can view what your changes look like by pressing View page at the top. When you make changes, simply press Save again and refresh your checkout page to view your changes.

You can add as many as you want to a page by clicking the Add Variant button again.
